FAQ

(1) How long are the volunteer/intern placements?

The volunteer/intern placements can range anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months or up to 1 year or 2 years. LIDEFO prefers individuals who are able to commit to longer periods (3 months or more), however, is happy to consider applicants who will join LIDEFO for shorter periods.

(2) Is there an age restriction for volunteer/intern placements?

LIDEFO is seeking volunteers/interns between the ages of 18-65 years. Placements at LIDEFO are based on applicants’ skills and prior experience.

(3) Are the volunteer/intern positions paid?

As LIDEFO is a relatively new community based organization it does not pay an allowance to volunteers/interns due to financial constraints. Participants are kindly requested to look for external funding sources.

 (4) Will I be provided lodging and accommodation?

Yes. For a small fee of $100/month, interns/volunteers will be provided a room with a bathroom and kitchen area. LIDEFO is currently in the process of locating a guesthouse for volunteers/interns. In such a case, volunteers/interns may be required to share a house with other volunteers/interns or a local family. Please follow-up with Mr. Daniel Ngangasi II to determine exact logistical details.

 (5) What about food and cooking?

A cooking stove will be provided by LIDEFO to volunteers/interns so they can prepare their own food. Kasese District is known for its fresh agricultural produce, fish and animals, therefore the intern/volunteer will have a variety of choices for meals. The intern/volunteer can easily access fresh food either from the local market or supermarket.

(6) What about transportation?

LIDEFO does not have vehicles; however, it is centrally located in Kasese town where public transport is readily available. In the event of official field work, LIDEFO will arrange for transportation for the intern/volunteer.

LIDEFO can make arrangements for airport pick-ups and drop offs for interns/volunteers either through a taxi service or by bus.

(7) Will I have opportunities to learn the local culture and langue?

Yes. The intern/volunteer will have a local mentor from LIDEFO who will be fluent in English and will gladly teach and expose the intern/volunteer to local traditions and cultures. LIDEFO will provide all interns/volunteers with local language classes.

(8) What about leisure activities?

Kasese is known for its beautiful wildlife and national parks. Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Uganda which is home to Elephants, Lions, Crocodiles, Giraffes, and Buffalos among various other animals. Mt Rwenzori National Park is another popular destination for nature lovers and hikers. Kasese is also close to a number of other towns and districts which are popular destinations for those seeking leisure activities.
